May 2014 Newsletter

Month of May Opens Wide

Like a greatly-anticipated new movie, May is opening big for Tudor Wines, with several key meet-the-public events, from our neighboring Carmel environs all the way across the Pacific to Hong Kong. On Saturday, May 3rd, our delectable Riesling Maestral Ice Wine will be the final wine poured at the dinner for the exclusive Chaine de Rotisseurs organization, taking place at Quail Lodge in Carmel Valley. If you haven’t tried Maestral yet, it is a classic-style dessert wine made from late-harvest grapes sourced at Tondre’ Vineyard. We hand-select for optimal ripeness and clean flavors. Also on Saturday May 3rd and 4th we will be pouring at the Tudor United Sports Car Championship at Laguna Seca’s Mazda Raceway, inland from Carmel at 1021 Monterey-Salinas Highway. Honesty compels admitting that the event is sponsored not so much by Tudor Wines as by Tudor Watches, a luxury brand in the Rolex family. Still, we’re keeping very good company, and so will you if you attend the races and visit our pouring station. For ticket info, call the raceway at 800/327-7322. On Monday, May 6th we take part in a trade and consumer wine tasting at Clint Eastwood’s Tehama Golf Club, located at 25000 Vía Malpaso in Carmel. Saturday, May 17th will find us offering our wines at the Second Annual Barnyard Food and Wine Celebration, at the Barnyard Shopping Village in Carmel Valley. It’s an amazing four-hour, charity-benefitting event, costing only $25 per person, with kids under six admitted free. Please go to www.thebarnyard.com (http://www.thebarnyard.com/barnyardevents/second-annual-taste-barnyard-2/) for tickets and information.

Just down the road a piece

Competing for the attention of your wine and food appetites on the same day, is a group of some 35 area winemakers –us among them –at the Eighth Annual Santa Highlands Gala. It’s a three-hour event highlighted by top-flight local cuisine, live music, and auctions of big-format bottles. If this sounds appealing, please know that the event tends to sell out every year. Tickets are $85, and information is found at www.santaluciahighlands.com (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/santa-lucia-highlands-gala-tickets-6447934947) . May closes out with an international flair on the 27th, 28th and 29th at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. The event is Vinexpo Asia-Pacific 2014. More than a thousand exhibitors from virtually every wine region in the world will be on hand. As representatives of the remarkable cool-climate wines of California’s Santa Lucia Highlands, we hope to make a great impression. If you’re on the far side of the Pacific and among the anticipated 18,000 visitors, please stop by and raise a glass with us! Event details are available at www.vinexpo.com.
